PB370 backpack design

Check out the design I made for my recent client who's participating in Sunday's "Race for the Cure" walk. It was a pleasure working with them for such an important cause. Also, I got the idea of doing my Beast Mode drawstring backpacks after working with the PB370 group.

First look: Barrel Man part 2

I've always been one to design something totally random, yet get folks recognizing past time favorites. The thought of a big ass ice cream bar on a black t-shirt continuing my "Barrel Man" series is quite amusing. It's totally random but it's pretty cool to look at! Release date: pending.

Cover art: G-Mo "Smash" Bronson

G-Mo "Smash" Bronson cover illustration for Isolated Wax.

Earlier this year Mega Busive from Isolated Wax contacted me to do Geronimo Cross's cover art concept, he wanted it completely done in Adobe Illustrator... how could I resist?! After reviewing the original pencil sketch (which was a clean concept by the way) I proceeded drawing it out on Illustrator. The cover design is 100% vector art giving me the opportunity to do what I enjoy most. I rarely get to use Illustrator for my clients so this truly was a blessing.

Geronimo Cross's G-Mo "Smash" Bronson album is now available on Isolated Wax and features Matt Gamin, Pacoe The Illiterate, Opski Chan, Boxcar Atoms alongside producers Abomination ONE, Mr. AEKS, Barry Bones, 4SE, Dave Aju, Gabre Meden, Massive Intelligence and Tape Mastah Steph.

First look: Cork Clothing logo sample

One of 3 logo redesigns for Cork Clothing based out in Solano County, "We got major plug."

I had the opportunity to work with this new and exciting label called "Cork Clothing" based around my area. Their concept was actually a redesign I primarily cleaned up on Adobe Illustrator. Around the logo, the challenge was to make everything come together branding their quirky "We got major plug" tagline alongside their brand name. For this comp, I went with that classic "parental advisory" logo seen in rap albums because it vividly stands out within the white outlined box. Their tagline is definitely a winner, it corresponds and goes hand in hand with the logo depicted on the left.

I'm really happy to have assisted Cork with this small project. It's a stepping stone to many more concepts I hope! Originally, they approached me for design work back in June that didn't work out so well. I was tied up with a nasty dispute vs. our mortgage bank, we ended up putting our house in the market and signed off on a ton of paper work... on top of that, I was interviewing left and right with possible job openings so the time spent on their project was just not their. It wasn't until they saw my studio open and I had set up shop as a full time designer they came back and gave me a second chance. I made it a priority to get this project completed and in the end, I finally delivered.

Be sure to follow Cork Clothing on Twitter.
Their website is also up, you can check em out at www.corkcloth.com

First look: New DJ Eternal Cover Art

Last week Dj Eternal (BlackGrapes/Funk Lab/Prolific) broke me off a request for another mix album cover. It was barely 3 weeks since his last mix "Midnight Island Beach Party" was released, lol. Who can complain? The guys been giving me steady work for the past month. His new album is titled "Bounce & Riiddeee To The Boogie Oogie Funk." It's a mix tape that boasts some serious old school funk. When he explained the idea to me I recall DJ E saying "Yo, I want an album cover filled with low riders and me with a zoot suit." LOL, definitely had fun with this one - I referenced a number of Low Rider magazines and looked at the use of colors and to make this pop off with some "old school" flavor. DJ Eternal's got a funny sense of humor and you can really see it in the cover art he approved. Album should be out within the week.

Check out DJ Eternal's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Networking with great minds

Left to right: Booger Kids/Breezy Excursion, Hella Bastos x TurtleSpeed, Petals and Peacocks, Tony.psd

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the "Breezy Excusions 3 year Anniversary • Booger Kids Grand Opening • Local Support" event located in Cannery Park, San Jose. It was the first time I had ever attended such a huge label faire event in San Jose. With a hectic work schedule, living in the Solano County area and family events taking priority on the weekends - this was a wonderful "first time" event for myself. I spent a few hours checking out booth after booth and interacted with a ton of creative minded folks with some pretty slick shirt designs. Definitely not the last event I will be attending!

I also had the opportunity to break bread with the folks behind Booger Kids/Breezy Excursion, Hella Bastos x TurtleSpeed and Petals & Peacocks. Networking with these folks and plotting out some ideas was a great feeling. I've got nothing but love for all the folks involved in Cannery Park's event yesterday. I really needed this- interacting and building bridges with talented folks. I hope I can be a part of this the next time around!

Bomba Starr - October reissue

Photo: Richard Dato Model: Eric Geli Venue: Tony.psd's Garage

I'm loving this great shot Richard took of the Bomba Starr shirt during our last photoshoot. The Bomba Starr design is coming back this October in men's small to 3XL. (pre-shrunk, A-Style branded shirts) When the first 2 prints came out last year, I was so occupied with my old job I didn't really get to enjoy the release of this amusing shirt. When the majority of sizes sold out there was a growing interest in the design so I've decided to go for another run. You'll be seeing another photoshoot collaboration next month with photographer Jerry Rodrigo and FKN Famous.

More pics from the Studio

Today I had the chance to bring a lot more personal items into the office. I spent much of the day setting up shop hauling in boxes of reference books, graphic novels, misc. toys, collectibles. My office chairs also came in today which was a plus. My favorite addition to the studio is our new rolling rack. I'm using it to hang my shirt designs on display for new clients to get a first hand look at the feel and quality of each shirt. For the past few years, anytime a shirt was created I'd save a few sizes in a box or simply wear them. It feels real good looking at how many shirts I've released since 2009 and have them on display.

Next week we've got shelves and storage spaces coming in and the "design couch" should be in the studio as well, lol.

Tony.psd's studio is now open

On Thursday, September 1st, 2011 my wife and I officially opened for business. It was just 6 weeks ago I explained to my wife the dreams I had of one day opening my business. That day finally came true. We'll be transitioning the move back to San Jose in a matter of weeks, the office is not complete at the moment. We did get our huge project table into the studio with more furniture (book shelves, cabinets, wall hangings and even a couch) on the way. Setting up should take us the entire month but the basics are already in place. The great thing about my project table is that it has shelving on both ends of the table perfect for my shirt inventory. Everything should be set up by the end of the month. I put my wife in charge of decorating the studio, her goal is to make it a work environment I'll be excited to come to each day vs. a boring old cube. The perks of having a wife who's a interior decorator for Pottery Barn! Everything is coming together!
