As we celebrate post 200 of 2011, I reflect on 3 important events that are about to open the doors of 2012 wide open with my company and a creative outlook. This was one hell of a year and we made the absolute best of it!
On Christmas day, my wife's parents and brothers visited my studio for the first time since opening in September. I gotta say, it was a great feeling that meant a lot to me, especially seeing my parents Gill and Lina see how my operation runs. It was a little tough explaining what I did on a regular basis when we visited them in Vallejo so seeing them at my studio meant everything. My folks are visual folks who like to see things first hand, being here - they could see the hard work, dedication and set up of the studio including my inventory and samples. They even went home with a "Pwet" shirt, lol. Definitely a merry christmas!

Since the week prior to Black Friday/Thanksgiving its been one hell of a ride for my business. Everyday has been a busy schedule and I'm just finally getting the chance to sit back and appreciate the photo's Rod and Richard have been sending me. This set of behind the scene's pics is coming from Rod Rosete. (307 Photography) Rod and I have been planning the SF shoot for about a month and it was our first production shoot together.

If you’re gonna be at San Jose’s “Watch the Throne” tour featuring Jay-Z and Kanye West on Wednesday, December 14th be on the lookout for this vector illustration I did for a friend/client sitting in the V.I.P. section right by the stage. Had fun with this project, added more detail than I usually do in illustrations. (peep the preview outlines) Good stuff, I hope to do a lot more drawings in 2012 now that I’ve settled back into San Jose permanently.

These samples are long over due and it's time to share it with our readers. For months we've gone back and fourth sharing ideas on branding Golden State of Mind as it's own identity and not using elements our favorite basketball team and many others are using. We've considered abandoning the use of the Bay Bridge, the California state as a silhouette and basketball players for GSoM's logo because it's already been done many times over. Feedback is appreciated, again nothing is final just sharing some of these designs to the public.
I'll say it again in regret: I didn't participate in last years Cyber Monday sale event. To tell you the truth I just didn't have any heart last Christmas to sell. I posted a few pictures here and there and nothing moved. That's karma for you, not enough effort - you get poor results in return. This year was different... with Black Friday and Small Business Saturday already a success, if there was one event I did not want to foul up it was Cyber Monday. When the day ended, I achieved 3 things today: 1- My customers saved a lot of money. 2- I did not lose any of my money invested on tripling my inventory. 3- We made money - and that's how a business stays open & succeeds. Marking the entire store down including sales items were a big gamble but n the end, everyone got what they wanted. In the end, after 4 days of selling hard - man, we've established ourselves as a legitimate small business and it feels great! Again, thank you everyone for your continued support. This was a long time coming... 3 years to be exact. What became a simple hobby, turned into a personal dream of owning my own business and doing what I love most: Being creative. Through t-shirt designs, I express my designs based on personal interests and humor for people to publicly see. On Wednesday, November 23rd - my wife and I were invited to set up our first merchandise booth at DJ Streak and Genevieve Chanelle's "Pre-Thanksgiving Bash" at Level 236 in San Mateo. It was a great experience setting up shop for the first time, interact with the public and have fun! This is the first of many events, we are blessed for this opportunity and plan to attend many more.

It was a pleasure to work with Rod Rosete (STE307 Photography) for my winter photoshoot. I've always been conservative of how I have my photo's shot and have always made simple requests in the past. Working with Rod, his recommendations on location and suggestions to how each photo is shot has brought new insight to how I brand my company. Rod has a great work attitude as a photographer and provides many options prior to the shoot date including lens and lighting options. I hope we can work together in future projects. Back in the days there was this thing called a "photo album" where people took pictures and had them developed and stored in this booklet. Before everyone "uploaded" their pics on Facebook this was the what we used to do, lol. When you come to my studio, I set up a photo album, design portfolio and even a sketch book for my clients to view. It's gotten tacky showing folks my work on my lap top, especially when wi-fi is lagging in the studio or I'd forgot the url address to your portfolio!
Did you catch us on local news in Sacramento? I tell ya', for any Warriors game - my wife and I plan ahead and base our day for our Dubs. Whether it's taking a day off together or showing up an hour early, as fans we participate in everything from the warm ups to conversing with fans alike. Special thanks to my buddy Rich for sharing this post! We saw a camera man last night filming ups and are glad to see it make local news!
I printed out about 2,000 business cards this past July to help spread the word of my business. We ran out which is great - hopefully we got the word out! My business cards are always given to people I meet on a regular basis and I pack them with every order along with a handful of stickers. These stickers are double sided, this time featuring some hockey sticks, teal, a solid white background and buddy Jacqueline!
